How it Works
Pro 36 offers a rare board and train program where your pet actually lives in house with our family to allow us to maximize the time we have with your k-9 family member. This gives us time to build a relationship with your pet and helps us cultivate more effective training. It also allows us to observe your dog’s behavior as often as possible.
Our Training Approach
Balanced Training
Our lead trainer was educated at Tarheel Canine Training Inc in North Carolina (A Globally renownded Training Institute) We use the latest scientific findings to Insure success! this means we use all 4 quadrants of operant conditioning in order to communicate clearly and often with your pet!
Every dog and client is unique
We recognize every dog and owner team to be unique. Our training strategy will look different from client to client becuase the training needed will be different! Our strategy allows us to address a diverse array of issues while still delivering results tailored to the client each and every time.
Motivation is key
Dogs love to learn and they thrive on being successful. At pro 36 we beleive A dog with a task that it is trained to do well is a happy dog! Even if that task at the moment is as simple as sitting still, they can be really fulfilled by being set up to do it well! We use positive reinforcement to teach the expectation to your pet so they not only know what to do, but they will learn to enjoy doing it!

Frequently Asked Questions
What dog training services do you offer?
We offer premium Board and Train programs for both basic and advanced courses. We will soon offer extended Board and Train programs for behavior modification needs, like reactivity and aggression. Lastly, to all graduates of any one of our board and train programs we offer private lessons and follow-ups either at our facility or in your residence.
Who trains my dog?
Justin Schaefer is our lead and only trainer. Your pet will work EXCLUSIVELY with him at all times. He is a recent graduate of the Tarheel Academy Dog school in North Carolina (A globally renowned police dog academy).
How does the schedule work?
Check - ins and check - outs are usually done on the weekends to be more accommodating to your schedule. These will include a consultation (if you have not done one already) and an exit lesson upon graduation. You will get weekly updates, and we will ask that you come in for a private lesson on our more extended programs for you to be able to learn alongside your k-9 companion.
What do I need to provide?
We will require shot records, a completed questionnaire, and 50% of the total fee before check-in. At check-in we will require you to provide food for the duration of your pet’s stay along with a list of any allergies we need to be aware of (We use a lot of treats in training).
When can I schedule training?
Our schedule is posted here on the website. If there is an available date that works for you, call or email and we will book you for the appropriate date.
Why do I need free follow-up lessons if you trained the dog? Can you not get done in 3 weeks?
3 weeks is more than enough time to instill the expectations needed for great obedience! The challenge lives in how dogs learn. They take mental snapshots of how to behave in certain situations. When, something about that "picture" changes, like a new home, a new baby, even you getting a new job which changes the routine routine can sometimes cause the dog to become confused. Then you may see a regression in their obedience. For this reason we cannot offer any "guarantees" on long term effectiveness of our training (and frankly neither can any other trainer), but here at Pro 36 we are committed to helping you develop a long term positive relationship. IF something changes down the road you are encouraged to reach out so we can help you solve any future issues.
Does my dog have to be neutered/spayed?
Absolutely not! We will ask you in the consult whether your dog is intact or not, so that we will know both how to handle training and socialization with other student dogs. We actually don’t recommend spaying or neutering until at least 8 months old. There are critical stages of hormonal development that are hindered if you alter too early.
How do I sign up?
At this time we do not offer online signups. This is because we want each client to have a personal relationship with us here at Pro 36. We want to know both you and your pet before you signup to ensure we are offering you the best options possible. Signing up is done by our trainer after your consultation, which you can schedule via phone call or email.
Do you teach potty training?
Yes! With our board and train programs your pet lives in our home with our family! Some trainers offer courses for basic manners like potty training, pulling on leashes, barking, door crashing, chewing, ect… The reality is we don’t personally want to live with any dog who doesn't know those things, so they are taught in each and every one of our packages free of charge.
Will my dog keep his personality and be happy?
Our goal will be to help foster a positive relationship with you and your dog! He or she will certainly be happy, but their personality may change some. You will find them more confident in playtime. They know the rules and will know how to play within the bounds you set. Dogs thrive with well outlined rules, just like they would be in a pack. Just because a personality shift may occur, doesn't mean it is a bad change in their personality. We like to think we are bringing out the best version of your pet which makes for both a happier family AND A HAPPIER DOG!
Do you use training collars?
Yes! And we love them! We will talk on this in depth in our consult, but our aim with leash pressure and any form of correction is to provide the minimum force possible to communicate effectively with the dog. If a dog is running out into a busy street and has nothing but a flat collar on, you might have to yank hard to get their attention back. With the appropriate training collar a light tap means you get their attention back, and you can then lead them to safety. We believe this to be a much more humane way to communicate with the dog. In accordance with that belief, we have an array of collars we use. Slip leashes are usually where we start, and then (only if needed) we will promote to a Starmark collar, then a prong collar. Again, this is all to achieve the goal of effective communication while using the MINIMUM amount of force or discomfort to the dog.
What training method do you use?
We believe in two main truths about training. 1) A balanced approach using all forms of communication works best. This is inclusive of both treats and corrections when necessary. 2) All dogs and owners are a unique team and training may look different from one client to another. In general we use treats to teach the dog a new expectation. Then we slowly wean them off the treat and transition to a correction which shows them now they are required to follow the rule.
Do you train aggressive dogs?
At this time no, but it is largely due to not having the proper facilities built to handle that appropriately. We are in the planning stages of building out kennels that will be outfitted to handle these cases. These are the ones our hearts go out to. Getting help to the families suffering from an aggressive dog can prevent putting down a good dog. It is one of our goals to be able to help in this area as soon as possible.
